Scripture
Ezekiel 2:3, 8-10, 3:1 (ESV)
"And he said to me, “Son of man, I send you to the people of Israel, to nations of rebels, who have rebelled against me. They and their fathers have transgressed against me to this very day. “But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. Be not rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you.” And when I looked, behold, a hand was stretched out to me, and behold, a scroll of a book was in it. And he spread it before me. And it had writing on the front and on the back, and there were written on it words of lamentation and mourning and woe. And he said to me, “Son of man, eat whatever you find here. Eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.“
AI Prompt
An illustration of an outstretched hand presenting a scroll with Hebrew writing. The hand is depicted as open and offering, symbolizing the act of sharing or revealing the scroll. The scroll itself appears ancient and revered, with clear Hebrew script visible on its surface. The focus of the image is on the interaction between the hand and the scroll, emphasizing the gesture of presentation and the significance of the Hebrew text. The background should be simple to keep the attention on the scroll and the hand's gesture.
Process/Reflection
This vision is part of the call of Ezekiel as a prophet (spokesman) for the Lord. Ezekiel is not to come up with his own message, rather, the Lord is giving him the complete and total message. Ezekiel is to ingest it and regurgitate it--that's it. The words themselves are terrible--but the taste is sweet. A reminder that the Lord speaking to his creatures is always an action of grace--even when the words themselves are hard to hear. This image came together pretty quickly with AI. There were a few initial hiccups with the look/scale of the scroll--but those were fairly simple to solve. I like that the hand is upturned--it's a gifting gesture that is appropriate to the text.
